“ A Detroit classic. We ordered some coney dogs and we got a chicken tender plate for the kids. Their dogs are good and the whole operation there is quite efficient. They are able to turn out tables pretty quickly. One thing that made my girls smile was when they requested ranch to dip their chicken tenders, they were given a whole bottle of ranch! ”
“ The owner is awesome and the food is great. We met som many Seahawks fans. There is so much Detroit history in the wonder business. Its like one of the places you can not say you have been to down town Detroit and not say you tried the food and watched people walk by. ”

“ Wow!!! So yummy! I was visiting Detroit for the weekend for a family party and my sister's coworker recommended American Coney Island. The waiter was so attentive and funny and super helpful. He told us what's the most popular and recommended what a first-timer should get. We all got the Coney Island Hot Dog and we got 2 chili cheese fries to share. The chili on the hot dog and fries was so darn good! I wanted more! The decor is so nice inside with pictures of the family. It seems like a diner / fun old school place to eat. So much history too. “ With American and Lafayette being next door to each other, we visited both places and tried the Coney Dogs at both to see who is the ultimate Coney Dog champion. Spoiler: it's a tie. I know, I know, what kind of competition ends in a tie? That's boring, right? Well honestly, I couldn't tell the difference between the two Coney Dogs. Both hot dogs tasted like the standard mass produced franks and the chili at both places had a very similar color, consistency, level of spice and taste. I didn't try the other things on the menu, but it seemed like American had more options. So if you decide to go crazy go nuts and want to get something other than a Coney Dog, maybe American is your jam then. Also, American seemed to have a brighter and more open interior setup. ”
“ When you think about a Coney Island dog you think (or at least I did) of New York...not Detroit. But legend has it Detroit is where these originally came from...and regardless of which city gets credit...American Coney delivers a nice dog. I went with one American and one Coney....the difference being loose meat on the American. Both were nice...but I preferred the original. The dog has nice snap...the chili has a great flavor and the cheese and onions round it off well. If you are in Detroit this really is a spot worth trying! ”
